PERIODONTAL FAQ’s:

How do I know if I have periodontal disease?
The best way to find out if you have periodontal disease is to have your dentist or a periodontist check you for it. Many times the common signs such as bleeding gums and tooth looseness are not present and the disease goes undiagnosed, until the very advanced stages are reached.

Is peridontal disease contagious?
Research suggests that the germs that cause the disease may be transferred in saliva.

I brush, I floss, I see my dentist regularly, how did this happen to me?
As we age our bodies change. What was once a minor problem can become a more significant problem. This may be the result of a decline in our immune system, systemic , new medications or STRESS!

Will treatment cure my problem?
Periodontal disease is not cured but rather controlled: in most people, most of the time. Failure to practice good hygiene and get the prescribed regular cleanings can all lead to relapse. Changes in your health may also lead to increased disease susceptibility.
